A wolf pup — still in the round, fuzzy-faced stage of early youth — regarding the viewer with the directness that wolf pups, unlike most young predators, seem to possess from birth. The pup's grey-black coat is rendered with the soft precision that Glen brought to all his young-animal subjects, the face already carrying the intelligence of a highly social predator. This is not a portrait of innocence but of early competence.
Glen's wolf pup study, like his other young-animal paintings, captures the specific character of the species at its youngest: the wolf pup is already different from a dog pup, already carrying something of the intensity that will define the adult.
