A Saw-whet Owl perched in a maple in autumn — the tiny owl surrounded by turning maple leaves, some still green, some gold, some already brown and falling, the bird completely still and watching from the cover the leaves provide. This is one of Glen's most painterly owl compositions: the leaves are given as much weight as the bird, the composition requiring the viewer to find the owl within the autumn foliage rather than having it presented front and centre.
The maple leaves are botanically precise — the specific lobing of the sugar maple leaf is correct at every stage of the autumn colour turn. This Saw-whet Owl in autumn maple is one of his most subtly composed and atmospherically rich owl paintings.

Choose one of three edge finishes. A mirrored wrap gives the impression that the work continues around the edge of the canvas. A white edge offers a traditional, untouched finish, and a black edge frames the work with a quiet accent, almost like a shadow.
