# Bald Eagle — Giclée on Paper

This is the painting. In January 1983, Glen and his brother Bernard, alongside Canadian Ambassador Allan Gotlieb, walked into the Oval Office and presented this watercolour of a bald eagle to U.S. President Ronald Reagan — a gift on behalf of the people of Canada to the people of the United States. Reagan's letter of thanks, on White House letterhead, remains in the Loates family archive.

What you are looking at is the work itself: a single bald eagle settling onto a weathered branch, wings still spread wide, every feather rendered with the precision that makes Glen's wildlife unmistakable. It is also one of his most celebrated watercolours — the medium he is most known for, and the one in which Canadian wildlife art has no equivalent. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He is the first Canadian artist whose work was accepted into the White House collection.
