# Kokanee Salmon — Giclée on Paper

Two Kokanee Salmon — the landlocked form of Sockeye — hover over a gravel riverbed in their spawning colours: the body fully turned to the brilliant red that gives the Sockeye its common name, the head still grey-green and hook-jawed. The larger male leads, the female behind him, both in the final passage of their lives. The water column above them is rendered with the translucency of a clean mountain river, the gravel below as specific and individual as any surface Glen painted.

Glen treated fish with the same observational seriousness he brought to his large mammal work. The Kokanee's spawning transformation — from silver lake fish to vivid red river fish — is one of the most visually dramatic events in Canadian freshwater ecology, and Glen painted it at the peak of its intensity. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his fish studies are among the most technically accomplished in Canadian wildlife art.

Produced as a museum-quality giclée on archival, acid-free paper using fade-resistant inks. A 1" white border surrounds the image, ready for the framer of your choice.
