# Cedar Waxwings in Cherry Tree — Giclée on Paper

Cedar Waxwings feeding in a cherry tree — multiple birds in various stages of landing, perching, and reaching for fruit, the red cherries brilliant against the turning autumn leaves. This is one of Glen's more complex multi-bird compositions, the branches woven through the image at different planes, each bird placed with its own specific posture and intent.

Waxwings were one of Glen's favourite subjects — elegant, social birds whose behaviour in fruit trees is endlessly compositionally interesting. He observed them across seasons and painted them with the detail of a naturalist and the eye of a painter. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his bird watercolours have been collected across North America for over five decades.
