# Fringed Polygala — Giclée on Paper

Fringed Polygala in full bloom — the vivid magenta-pink flowers luminous against the deep green of the surrounding forest floor vegetation. This botanical study is one of Glen's most richly coloured: the Polygala's unusual flower form, with its wing-petals and fringed crest, is rendered with complete accuracy, while the atmospheric blue-green background gives the whole composition a jewel-like intensity.

The Fringed Polygala is one of the most beautiful and least-celebrated wildflowers of the eastern Canadian forest, and Glen gave it the full attention it deserves — treating it with the same seriousness he brought to his large mammal paintings. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; this botanical work is one of his most vibrant and distinctive pieces.
