# Autumn Deer — Giclée on Paper

A whitetail buck stands alert in a clearing of yellow birches and crimson maples while, near his feet, a doe lowers her head to drink. Her reflection meets her own gaze in the still water. Glen built this scene the way the deer themselves would experience it — every leaf, every pebble, every strand of fur rendered with the patience of someone who has spent days quiet in the woods.

This is Glen at the height of his watercolour powers — the medium he is most celebrated for, and arguably the medium where Canadian wildlife art has no equivalent. Painted from a lifetime of field observation, anatomical study, and seasonal return to the same forests. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his work hangs at the Smithsonian Institution and was personally presented to a sitting U.S. President.
