Canada Geese come in to land on the Peace River — the great birds dropping into the water among the river grasses, wings still braking, feet out. This is a Peace River, Alberta composition, one of Glen's western series, and the landscape behind the landing geese carries the open quality of the northern Alberta river valley: wider sky, lower horizon, a different register from his Ontario compositions.

The Honkers — Canada Geese — were one of Glen's most-painted subjects, but this Peace River landing scene has a specific quality of place that separates it from his Ontario goose paintings. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his goose and waterfowl compositions span the full breadth of Canada's geography.
