# Blue Jays — Giclée on Paper

Two blue jays hold their ground in an oak tree as the first snow of autumn dusts the remaining leaves. The composition captures a specific Canadian moment — that brief overlap when the last of the fall colour and the first winter snow exist together. Glen rendered the jays' electric blue against the tawny copper of the oak leaves with the kind of chromatic confidence that only comes from painting the same birds, in the same season, year after year.

Blue jays were regulars at the feeders near Glen's Maple, Ontario studio, and he observed them in every season and light condition. The anatomical precision in the wing patterning and crest is the result of years of close study — he knew these birds the way a neighbour knows a face. Executed in watercolour. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts whose bird studies have been exhibited and collected across North America.

Produced as a museum-quality giclée on archival, acid-free paper using fade-resistant inks. A 1" white border surrounds the image, ready for the framer of your choice.
