# Mourning Dove — Gallery Canvas

A Mourning Dove nests among rhododendron branches — the warm buff-brown plumage pressed close to the ground, the iridescent neck patch just visible, the bird completely still in the specific stillness of an incubating bird. This 1986 watercolour is a study in patient attention: the dove is fully aware of the observer but committed to the nest. The rhododendron leaves and fallen petals are rendered with botanical precision.

Glen observed nesting birds with the discipline of a naturalist who understood how disturbing that observation could be, which is why this painting carries such remarkable stillness — it does not feel intruded upon.
